Top Dallas movers for your move to Ohio
Out of 73 Dallas-area movers capable of handling interstate moves, five consistently stand out for Dallas-to-Ohio runs. Here's the ranked summary:
- Element Moving and Storage — 4.86 / 5
- AB Moving — 4.62 / 5
- AM Moving Company LLC — 4.58 / 5
- Evolution Moving Company — 4.58 / 5
- Johnson Storage & Moving — 4.56 / 5
None of these are flawless — I'll tell you where each one earns it and where they've drawn complaints.
1. Element Moving and Storage — 4.86 / 5
12011 Denton Dr., Dallas, TX 75234 | (972) 805-0988 92% positive reviews | Yelp (17 reviews) | Google (945 reviews) | BBB: A+
Element is the highest-rated mover I've found for this route, with 92.4% positive feedback across 251 analyzed reviews. What keeps coming up in customer accounts: crews that move fast without getting careless, clear communication from booking through delivery, and genuinely careful handling of belongings. That combination is rarer than it should be.
The weak spots are on the back end. Damage claims and insurance resolution draw the most criticism, particularly for complex or long-distance moves. If you have high-value items, pin down their claims process in writing before signing anything.
State license: 006519926C | DOT#: 2038052 | 14 years in business
Services: Local, interstate, international, packing/unpacking, pianos, hot tubs, pool tables, art, antiques, crating, full-valuation coverage, storage, safes
2. AB Moving — 4.62 / 5
325 N. St. Paul St., Suite 300, Dallas, TX 75201 | (469) 378-5844 62% positive reviews | Yelp (301 reviews) | Google (542 reviews) | BBB: A+
AB Moving brings 25 years of experience and a large review base — 487 analyzed, with 61% positive. The praise focuses on speed, competitive pricing, and crews that treat property with care. When it works, clients are happy enough to recommend them outright.
The 36% negative rate is a real yellow flag, though. Hidden charges, clock-padding, and damaged items appear often enough in the complaint record that I'd recommend getting a detailed written estimate and asking specifically about what triggers any add-on fees before you commit.
State license: 000571862B | DOT#: 1939700 | 25 years in business Also known as: Baker Relocation, Inc.; AB Movers; AB Moving & Storage
Services: Local, interstate, international, packing/unpacking, pianos, hot tubs, pool tables, art, antiques, grandfather clocks, crating, shipment tracking, full-valuation coverage, storage, fragile-only packing, safes
3. AM Moving Company LLC — 4.58 / 5
5641 SMU Blvd. #128, Dallas, TX 75206 | (469) 278-2304 81% positive reviews | Yelp (496 reviews) | Google (430 reviews) | BBB: B+
AM Moving has the deepest review pool on this list — 711 analyzed — which makes the 80%+ positive rate meaningful rather than just lucky. Customers consistently mention on-time arrivals, efficient crews, and careful handling. A lot of repeat clients, which is the most honest signal you can get about a mover.
The main complaints: furniture damage, occasional late arrivals, and frustrating communication when something goes wrong. The B+ BBB rating (lower than the A+ most others here hold) is a data point worth noting. Not disqualifying, but ask about their claims process before booking.
State license: 006870171C | DOT#: 2571411 | 9 years in business | DOD certified
Services: Local, interstate, packing/unpacking, pianos, hot tubs, pool tables, art, antiques, grandfather clocks, full-valuation coverage, storage, fragile-only packing, safes
4. Evolution Moving Company — 4.58 / 5
11884 Greenville Ave #100A, Dallas, TX 75243 | (682) 651-5505 96% positive reviews | Yelp (50 reviews) | Google (867 reviews) | BBB: A+
A 96% positive rate across 271 reviews is the kind of number that's hard to manufacture. Evolution draws consistent praise for transparent pricing, professional crews, and finishing ahead of schedule. The negatives that do appear — surprise charges, transit damage, slow follow-up — are common moving industry issues rather than a pattern specific to Evolution.
What I'd tell a friend: if you're comparing options for a Dallas-to-Ohio move, Evolution is probably the most consistently well-reviewed company on this list. Their lower total review count compared to AM Moving just reflects fewer years at scale, not lower quality.
State license: 006779351C | DOT#: 2467590 | 11 years in business
Services: Local, interstate, packing/unpacking, pianos, hot tubs, pool tables, art, antiques, grandfather clocks, crating, full-valuation coverage, storage, safes
5. Johnson Storage & Moving — 4.56 / 5
646 Bronze Way, Dallas, TX 75236 | (817) 987-6490 75% positive reviews | Yelp (18 reviews) | Google (87 reviews) | BBB: A+
125 years in business is a number that deserves to be said plainly — Johnson Storage & Moving has been running moves longer than most of its competitors have existed. Customers highlight professionalism, careful handling, and the kind of organized, clear communication that makes a long interstate haul less nerve-wracking. Their long-haul institutional experience is real.
The trade-off: 75% positive across only 105 reviews means the sample is thinner than the others here, and damage or delay complaints show up with some regularity. If you want a company with genuine depth behind it, though, Johnson is worth a quote.
State license: 006615079C | DOT#: 286130 | 125 years in business | DOD certified Also known as: Johnson Logistics, LLC; Baron Worldwide; Security Van Lines
Services: Local, interstate, international, packing/unpacking, pianos, pool tables, art, antiques, crating, shipment tracking, storage

Cost to hire movers from Dallas to Ohio
For a studio or one-bedroom, full-service movers typically run between $1,140 and $4,619 on this route. A two- to three-bedroom home usually lands $2,367–$5,805. Moving a four-bedroom or larger? Budget $4,098–$7,391 and read the fine print carefully — the difference between the low and high end often comes down to packing services, valuation coverage, and access fees at origin or destination.
Cost of moving containers from Dallas to Ohio
Moving containers let you pack on your own schedule while the carrier handles the long haul. For this route: $827–$1,998 for a small move, $1,423–$2,987 for two to three bedrooms, and $1,902–$3,786 for a larger home. One practical advantage over renting a truck — fuel costs are folded into the container company's rate, so you're not calculating gas stops across four states.
Cost of moving truck rentals from Dallas to Ohio
A rental truck is the most budget-friendly option if you're willing to do the physical work and drive the 1,078 miles yourself. Expect $680–$1,291 for a small move, $756–$1,506 for two to three bedrooms, and $904–$1,924 for a larger home. Fuel is extra and adds up meaningfully on a haul this size — factor in a significant fuel cost depending on the truck's size and your route.
What drives moving costs from Dallas to Ohio
A few variables matter more than most people account for:
- Volume of belongings. Full-service movers price by weight, so the more you bring, the higher your bill. Decluttering before you pack is one of the few cost levers entirely in your control.
- Time of year. Summer is peak moving season in Texas — demand spikes, prices rise, and scheduling gets tighter. If you can shift your timeline to fall or late winter, you'll likely pay less and have more options.
- Service level. DIY saves money but costs time, energy, and in some cases, peace of mind. On a move over 1,000 miles, the gap between a rental truck and a full-service mover is real — in both price and effort.
What to know before moving from Dallas to Ohio
The financial case for moving to Ohio from Dallas is straightforward: lower cost of living across nearly every category. Here's the full picture.
Cost of living: Dallas vs. Ohio
| Category | Dallas, TX | Ohio |
|---|---|---|
| Average rent | $1,774/mo | $945/mo |
| Average home price | $303,900 | $230,798 |

Sources: World Population Review, Zillow, US Census Bureau, BLS, Tax Foundation, Zumper, Numbeo
A few things stand out:
- Rent is roughly 47% lower in Ohio. If you're renting, the savings show up immediately in your monthly budget.
- Home prices are about 24% lower — meaningful if you're planning to buy.
- Income levels are nearly identical, so you're not trading a pay cut for cheaper rent.
- Cost of living overall is about 6% lower, which compounds across groceries, utilities, and everyday expenses.
- The tax trade-off is the one number that surprises people most. Texas has no state income tax; Ohio's is 3.5%. That's real money out of your paycheck every month — run the math on your actual salary before you finalize the decision.

Sources: US Census Bureau, 270TOWIN, NeighborhoodScout, BestPlaces, Wikipedia
Some of this is pleasant news; some of it needs real planning:
- Summers are meaningfully cooler. Ohio's average high runs around 84°F versus Dallas's 96°F. If you've been running your AC ten months a year, that's a real quality-of-life improvement.
- Winters are a genuine adjustment. Ohio's average low hits 20°F — 16 degrees colder than Dallas's floor. If you haven't driven in snow or dealt with frozen pipes, take that seriously before you move.
- Snow accumulation is 28 inches per year in Ohio versus 1 inch in Dallas. Get snow tires. Buy a shovel. Plan for a driving adjustment period.
- Crime is considerably lower. Ohio's crime index (20.76) is well below Dallas's (51.4). Most people notice the difference fairly quickly after relocating.
- Politically, both leaned Republican in the last presidential election, so you won't find a dramatic shift in that regard.

Other logistics to sort before you go
Moving to Ohio involves more than packing — a few administrative and logistical details deserve attention before moving day:
- HOA rules: If you're moving into a community with an HOA, check move-in regulations before the truck shows up.
- Elevator reservations: Moving into a multi-story building? Reserve the freight elevator in advance — slots fill up fast on busy move days.
- Truck parking permits: Some Ohio cities require permits for moving trucks parked on public streets. Check with your destination city's parking authority before moving day.
- Mover licensing: Ohio doesn't have a state-specific moving license requirement, but any mover operating interstate must be registered with the USDOT. Ask for their DOT number and verify it on the FMCSA website before you book.
- Moving permits: No statewide moving permit is required in Ohio, but local rules vary — confirm with your specific city or municipality.
- Change of address: File your USPS change of address at least a week before moving day so your mail follows you to Ohio without a gap.
- Moving insurance: Every mover is required to offer Released Value Protection at no extra charge, but at 60 cents per pound per item, it's minimal coverage. For anything you can't afford to replace, ask about full-value coverage or look into third-party moving insurance.
- Moving checklist: Use our moving checklist to stay organized in the weeks leading up to your move. The small stuff is what bites you when you're juggling everything else.

Most Dallas-to-Ohio moves take two to eight days depending on the service type and provider. Full-service movers with a guaranteed delivery window tend toward the shorter end. Container companies and brokers can stretch closer to eight days, sometimes more during summer. Ask about the delivery window before you book and get the timeframe in writing — especially if you have a lease start date or job that depends on it.
How many Dallas movers offer custom crating for art or antiques?
44 movers in the Dallas area offer custom crating for fragile, oversized, or specialty items including artwork, antiques, and electronics. If you're moving anything irreplaceable, confirm the mover's specific crating process and what their valuation coverage actually includes for those items.
What's the best way to ship a car from Dallas to Ohio?
Auto transport is the practical option for most people on this route — driving your car 1,078 miles while managing a move rarely makes sense. Get quotes from two or three licensed carriers, verify their FMCSA registration, and decide between open transport (cheaper) and enclosed (better for collector or luxury vehicles). Use our car shipping calculator for a quick estimate before you start calling around.
Why are people moving from Dallas to Ohio?
The pull factor is usually cost. Ohio's lower housing prices, more affordable rent, and lower overall cost of living make it a practical destination for people who've been squeezed by Dallas's rising expenses. The push factors from Dallas most commonly cited in reviews and relocation data: high housing costs and traffic. Ohio's job market — particularly in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland — has also been drawing professionals in healthcare, manufacturing, finance, and tech.
Where do I find long-distance movers for the Dallas-to-Ohio route?
The five companies above are my top picks from the Dallas market. For a national carrier with solid experience on routes like this, SafeShip Moving is an operator I respect for interstate coordination — they work with vetted carrier networks and can be reached at developer@safeshipmoving.com. Can I pay cash for a Dallas-to-Ohio move?
19 Dallas movers accept cash, but it's not the norm for a reason — cash payments leave you with no paper trail if something goes wrong. Most reputable movers prefer credit card or money order. You'll typically owe a deposit at booking with the balance due at pickup or delivery. Confirm the payment schedule and accepted methods before your move date, not after.
Get quotes from multiple Dallas movers and run the numbers through our moving cost calculator before you commit to anything. A few phone calls and one comparison session upfront is worth more than any amount of regret over a surprise invoice on moving day.
