Full-Service Movers
A professional moving company handles the packing, loading, transport, and unloading. For a studio or one-bedroom, budget $1,176 to $4,758. Two to three bedrooms run $3,420 to $7,451. A four- or five-bedroom house typically costs $6,555 to $10,629.
The price varies based on how much stuff you have, which services you add (packing, storage, etc.), and when you move. Summer moves cost more.
Moving Containers
Moving containers like PODS give you flexibility—you pack on your timeline, they transport it. For a small load, expect $1,232 to $3,181. Two to three bedrooms run $2,102 to $4,495. Four-plus bedrooms: $2,831 to $6,039.
Rental Trucks
If you're willing to do the heavy lifting yourself, truck rentals are the cheapest option—$1,279 to $2,573 for a studio or one-bedroom, $1,427 to $2,828 for two to three bedrooms, and $1,662 to $3,431 for four-plus bedrooms. These prices include estimated fuel.
Just remember: you're packing, driving a large vehicle across 2,000+ miles, and unloading at the other end. Not for everyone.
What Affects Your Moving Cost
Several factors will change your final quote:
- How much stuff you have: Larger homes and more belongings = higher costs.
- Time of year: Summer (June–August) is peak season. Rates spike. Winter moves are cheaper but weather can complicate things.
- DIY vs. professional: DIY cuts costs but adds stress and effort. Professionals cost more but handle the logistics and liability.
- Distance and route: This move is about 2,389 miles. Shorter or longer routes change the price.
- Add-ons: Packing, storage, piano moving, and custom crating all add up.
